Dr. Kristen Roeder is a native Texan from the Galveston area. She attended the University of Houston Clear Lake and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology before going on to perform research at NASA Johnson Space Center in tissue development for the International Space Station. Caring for others has always been her passion; she was drawn to medicine, specifically pediatrics as her mother was born prematurely and suffers from a congenital retinal condition. She accepted an offer to attend medical school at one of the oldest universities in Ireland, Trinity College Dublin, graduating with honors. Dr. Roeder then completed her Pediatric Medicine Residency training at Akron Children's Hospital before returning to Texas.
Dr. Roeder has worked in various positions in pediatrics including Academic Medicine as Assistant Professor and Neonatal Hospitalist at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and General Pediatrician in various private practices including community health. Dr. Roeder is a Board Certified Pediatrician with the American Board of Pediatrics and is in process of completing the requirements for Board Certification with the National Board of Physician and Surgeons. She is a fellow with the American Academy of Pediatricians and a member of the American College of Pediatricians.
Dr. Roeder has over 10 years of experience in a variety of settings including neonatal intensive care, and outpatient clinics for children with complex health needs. Her diverse expertise, along with the pursuit of knowledge in Integrative Medicine, further demonstrates her commitment to providing comprehensive and holistic care to young patients.
Dr. Roeder founded Caritas Pediatrics and Wellness following her passion to practice medicine in a more holistic way that goes beyond the restrictions and the rushed visits of the current healthcare system. Her emphasis on building relationships and treating each child as a unique individual reflects a deep commitment to providing comprehensive and personalized care. Recognizing that children’s health concerns often encompass multiple aspects, she is passionate at looking at root cause and addressing the whole child rather than addressing isolated problems. Dr. Roeder’s expertise in pediatric emergent and urgent care is invaluable in ensuring the well-being of her young patients during difficult times for families. Her ability to manage situations effectively can reduce the need for visits to urgent care or emergency rooms, which can be a comfort to parents and promote the overall health and safety of the children under her care. Her expertise complements her holistic approach to pediatric medicine, emphasizing both physical and emotional well-being.
Dr. Roeder is married to an amazing fourth-generation Texas attorney, Joe Maida IV who has lived in Austin since 2001. He is the CEO and Founder of an Austin-based software company advancing three patents that he authored. Dr. Roeder and her husband enjoy time outdoors, exercising, and cooking together, as well as spending time with friends and family.
